New Film SHINE Highlights Salsa, Cultura and Gentrification Issue
Movies that depict Latino culture authentically are hard to come by which is why SHINE caught our attention with an entertainment value as well as real-life social issues – attacks to our Latino, people of color community.
And tonight…that beat is just beginning. – Ralphi Matas (Jorge Burgos) SHINE
SHINE was Kickstarter’s highest Latino crowdfunded narrative film. Winner of the audience award for best feature at the 2017 Urbanworld Film Festival and has over 1M trailer views on YouTube. At a time when the Hollywood industry has been shamed for lack of Latino representation and ownership – SHINE is defying the odds with a cast of Latinos. The music of FANIA, Marc Anthony, Romeo Santos, Noriel and more!
The story line is of two Puerto Rican brothers from New York’s Spanish Harlem and the street’s best Salsa dancers are separated for seven years after a tragedy, only to reunite years later on opposing sides of gentrification.
“Our music and dancing connects us… from the very first beat to the very last echo…” we at BoldLatina are here for this! So let’s show up! SHINE is in theatres now!
