Anti-Government Cuban Protests Break Out Over Universal Human Rights

Frustration has hit an all time high in Cuba over a government and 62-year regime that has not allowed Cubans to have a better life. Latin American countries have had similar mass protests break out On Sunday, July 11, 2021 Cubans left their homes for the streets to fight for their universal rights ‘derechos’ in one of the largest anti-government Cuban protests in history.

From Libreta de Abastecimiento (subsidized rations of food and goods) to the way the regime has handled Covid-19 health response, Cubans have had enough with limitations. Cubans are in dire need of food and other goods, supplies and better social services. Cubans are up against going hungry due to high food prices or contracting the Covid-19 virus. The Cuban protests have been labeled a humanitarian crisis of which world leaders in other countries have demanded Cuba serve its citizens in providing necessary subsistence and not target peaceful protestors for arrest. The Cuban government is blocking all access to humanitarian aid.

The Biden administration is being pressured to deliver on its promises made from Biden’s campaign trail in 2020 to lift sanctions on Cuba. Cuba’s citizens are rising to educate the world that this is not just about sanctions but Cuban dictatorship.
